Basic Kayak Instruction Class

We are now offering entry level kayak paddling courses at Blackstone Valley Outfitters This 3 hour course is designed for the beginning or recreational paddler. You will be instructed in the basics that all paddlers need to start with.

Current Classes: August 1, 8:30 am at store. Cost: $65
Current Classes: August 22, 8:30 am at store. Cost: $65
Current Classes: September 11, 8:30 am at store. Cost: $65

On Shore:

• PFD- Fit and why it is a necessity.
• Boat Fit- Foot position, knee placement, and rotation exercise.
• Proper equipment for loading and unloading your kayak
• Wet Exit Demonstration
• Paddle Land Demo- Hand positions, extension and torso rotation, feathering a paddle.
• Pre-paddle warm up

Safety Talk and Equipment:

• Whistle Pump Paddle Float Cell Phone
• Poly, Wool Paddle Jacket Wet Suit/Dry Suit Hot Beverage
• Dry Clothing First aid Kit Food & Water Float Plan
• Dry Bag Throw Bag

On Water

• Entry and launching a kayak
• Forward Stroke
• Sweep
• Reverse Sweep
• Stop
• Low Brace
• Raft
• Wet Exit

Cost: $65.00 per 3 hr class

Class Size limited to 6 paddlers.

What to Bring for the Course:

• Waterproof Sunscreen Aquasport SPF 30 and Dermatone Lip Gloss are good chooses
• Bug Repellent Bens 30% Deet Pump Spray or Natrapel Bug Protection (Non-Deet) are good chooses
• Small Dry Bag for Food, Water Shoes or Sandals (No Flip Flops), Good wicking clothing, Ball Cap
• Windbreaker, Sunglasses, Croakie, At least 2 liters of water
• Snacks- energy bars
